Marketa Vondrousova plans to hold her coach to Wimbledon tattoo deal
Marketa Vondrousova is clearly no stranger to the tattoo parlour but the newest Grand Slam winner is all set to rope her coach into her obsession.
Vondrousova has been trying to get her trainer to get a tattoo and he agreed that if she won Wimbledon then he would do it.
It seems that neither party believed that would be on the cards but incredibly, Vondrousova became the first unseeded woman to lift the Wimbledon trophy.
When the subject came up in the championship press conference, Vondrousova said she hopes he doesn’t chicken out.
She added that it might be a case of matching tattoos as she wants to get another one to add to her already impressive collection.
Vondrousova added that she will probably be choosing the design for the Wimbledon celebration ink.
“I think I’ll choose for him,” Vondrousova said.
“Maybe we’ll get the same one.
“We talked before the tournament, and he said, Yeah, so maybe if you win a Grand Slam, then I’ll do it. Then this is happening.
“I hope he’s not going to back. I think I’m just going to made him do it. So we’ll see.
“I hope we can make it happen here.”
Vondrousova mentioned post-match that this time last year her arm was in a cast and her career hung in the balance.
“Yeah, I had a cast last year at this time. It was impossible,” said Vondrousova of trying to conceive of this moment 12 months ago.
“I was watching my best friend here playing quallies. I was a tourist here.”
She said that winning Wimbledon wasn’t even a dream for her as she just never considered that it would even be possible.
“Yeah, when I was coming back, I didn’t know what’s going to happen, if I can play at that level again,” Vondrousova reflected.
“I mean, this seems impossible. Even, like, I don’t know, on grass I didn’t play well before. I think it was the most impossible Grand Slam for me to win, so I didn’t even think of it. When we came, I was just like, Try to win couple of matches. Now this happened, it’s crazy.”
Vondrousova’s husband cut a quiet but calm figure in her player’s box but she revealed that they shared an emotional moment which she described as the most emotional she had ever seen him.
“He’s like this all the time,” Vondrousova said of his calm support.
“I think when I came to the box, he cried. I saw him after, and he cried a lot. I think that’s the first emotion I saw him over the eight years.
“I think he cried on the wedding day also, but that was it for the eight years, so… That’s it.”
Vondrousova is set to jump into the top ten of the WTA Rankings thanks to her stunning Wimbledon win and is well in contention for the Tour finals as well.
