Ed Reynolds Obituary, Death Cause – It is with deep regret that I have learned of Ed Reynolds’ passing. When I first met Ed, he was a member of a band named the Invaders along with another Mark Reynolds who was not connected to him in any way. During that time period, they were supporting The Romantics as an opening act, along with Jim Bob and The Leisure Suits. Mark, a person who frequently took part in the jam sessions that I hosted at my house, ended up becoming one of my closest friends. At one point, he brought Ed and his cousin Joey, who was 14 years old, and together we recorded a couple of songs on a boombox in the middle of the room using a low-quality Realistic microphone placed in the right channel.

I ended up playing the cassette for Ian McCullough of Echo & The Bunnymen, and he went crazy over it, suggesting that we were like an American version of The Fall. He was impressed by what he heard. It left him speechless and awestruck. Ian came up with the concept for us to perform as the opening act for them in New York City, and he would read lyrics from the songs we were playing while he did so.  It was brought to the attention of the Atlanta-based publication Creative Loafing,

and as part of their coverage of the show, they conducted an interview with me. A few days ago, I was asked questions regarding the music scene in Birmingham during the 1970s and 1980s, and one of the topics that we talked about was Ed. When I was pretty near to the age of my kid, I went to Brother’s Music Hall to see my first “New Wave” concert there. Matt and Mots from Jim Bob, as well as Mark and Ed from The Invaders, are among the members of the cast that we have already lost.
